What is A DNS Record? How to create a A Record?

The Domain Name System (DNS) uses a particular kind of resource record called a record to map a URL to an IP address. On DNS servers, DNS records are kept and used to assist users in connecting their websites to the outside world. The URL is passed to the DNS servers and then directed to the particular Web server when it is typed into the browser and searched.


You might typically access your Campus 365 hosting through schoolname.campus365.io, for instance, if it is hosted on Campus 365's server. You might also wish to use schoolname.myerp.com to go there. The addition of a record pointing to the IP address of our server is one technique to achieve this. The exact same content is available on schoolname.campus365.io and schoolname.myerp.com.


How can I create a record?


Each hosting service offers slightly different techniques to create a record. Here are some general guidelines for some of the popular services: When in doubt, ask the specific business you're working with for clarification or further directions. GoDaddy.com

  1. Log in to your account at www.godaddy.com.
  2. Open the Domains tab and select "My Domain Names." You'll be directed to the Domain Manager page.
  3. Click the domain that you'd like to associate with your Campus 365 instance.
  4. Click "Add New A Record" in the box labelled "A."
  5. For the name, enter only the subdomain of the address you want to use. Eg: demo
  6. Enter the IP address as the pointer. Specify a TTL or use the default setting of 1 hour.
  7. Click OK, and then click OK again.
